Net Access
Many people write to us asking how they can get Internet access to T&T.
This page has everything we know about the subject.
Recent Developments
- Both BET and Cable and Wireless Antigua are now providing access, with Antigua providing Internet services to St. Lucia as well.
- According to a second-hand source, Opus plans to have full access by August 1995. It is expected to be in the neighborhood of US$40 for 100 hours. Official Opus news is available here.
- TSTT in Trinidad should be going live by the end of August, but it is uncertain whether they will be providing dial-up access, but they will be providing dedicated links to people who wish to become ISPs in Trinidad. In other words, add another month to when TSTT goes live to when it will be available to the general public. The potential ISPs for this are probably Interserv (an ISP start-up, projected to go live in October), Opus (the biggest T'dad BBS), and one other (No Name Yet).
- Fujitsu-ICL is currently hosting a dial-up connection to the Internet for the University of the West Indies in Trinidad, and will shortly be mirroring UWI's internal WWW server on their www server.
There are now 3 Internet Service Providers in Jamaica:
- Infochannel
- TOJ (phone company)
- UWI
There are a couple of companies with real-time Internet access in Trinidad:
- Amoco have a pretty fast link.
- Fujitsu-ICL have a triangular 64K network linking Jamaica, Barbados, and Trinidad. they get their Internet feed from Infochannel in Jamaica.
Neither of these companies will give you access unless you are an employee, of course.
To find the e-mail address of someone at UWI-Mona who you think may have
an account,
finger minotaur.uwimona.edu.jm for their last name.
