Alley Assassin: The Rules
Rule #1: Mike Fox is the all-mighty, all-powerful ArbitOr. Any
disputes are to be settled by him, and his decision is final.
Rule #2: Assassination is a simple task--simply plant a device
(hereafter known as a "bomb") somewhere. A successful assassination must meet
the following criteria:
- The target (and only the intended target) must set off the bomb.
- The bomb must make either an audible sound, or a visible light or both to
have been considered detonated, and the target must notice that the bomb
has done so.
- The bomb must have the target's name, and the name of the assassin.
Targets may only be assassinated once, at which point they are no longer
targets and must hide in shame. The only way for an alley to gain more
targets is to have Master Assassins (see rule #6). Targets may also
participate in assassinating other targets at anytime.
Rule #3: In the event of a successful assassination, the possession of
the bomb returns to the assassin. If the assassination attempt was
unsuccessful, the intended target gains possession of the bomb.
Rule #4: Generally (well, almost always) virtual assassinations (those
involving only computers) are not considered assassinations--pull off a really
good one, and I might consider it, but don't hold your breath.
Rule #5: Don't create a device that will injure someone or cause great
property damage (as determined by the current Damage Control Officer). Don't
kill/maim anyone. Even if you hate them. Resist the urge.
Rule #6: Assassins who manage to successfully assassinate 3 (three)
targets are considered to be Master Assassins, and become targets of their
associated alley. If Master Assassins are assassinated, they immediately lose
their title and are henceforth labeled Lame.
Rule #7: Not really a rule, just an explanation of how the scoring
works
Each alley starts at 0 (zero) points.
Successful assassination: +20 points
Failed assassination: -5 points
Losing a target: -15 points
Saving a target (ie: finding the bomb before it goes off): +5 points
Eliminating the original two targets in one alley: +10 points
Losing both of your original targets: -15 points
Losing all of your targets: -10 points
Having a Master Assassin: +10 points
Assassinating a Master Assassin: +10 points
Being a Master Assassin and getting
Assassinated because they were being lame: A thump on the head
Being a target, getting killed, then
Becoming a target again as a Master Assassin: +15 points
Then getting killed again: -20 points and the scorn of your alleymates
It is absolutely possible to gain/lose points on the basis of style. Be
stylish, be cool, and we'll give you more points. Be lame and annoying and
we'll take away your points and tell you to shut up.
Rule #8: Not really a rule, either, but a rough timetable
- Friday, October 25, 1996, at the stroke of midnight, the competition
begins!
- Sometime right before Finals Week, we end the competition and tally up the
points.
Rule #9: Not really a rule, either, but something to keep in mind:
The ArbitOr does not want to hear about your great plans, or answer questions
that start like "how many style points do I get for..." If you do, I may have
to disembowel you. So keep your amazing plans to yourself, and don't bug me
about style points, lest it tarnish my near-angelic perception of you.
ArbitOr--
Mike Fox
