I really don't like coming here, the air is filled with smoke, hotmail is slow as heck (even though the internet connection is fast), the programs crash on me (I lost the last general message I tried to send out), and there's just not a lot of time to go around. In about 45 minutes I'll be standing at the curb waiting for the 305 standing bus with my 600 won in hand. Hopefully I'll be able to get one of the few seats so the driver's quick stops, accelerations, and turns don't wear my arms out. I'll watch for the university and wait one more stop before I request one. There's a 5-way intersection to cross in order to get to school, each light change takes about a minute and thirty or two minutes. I often debate in my mind whether or not I should go to the convenient store first to get a snack because sometimes it will be five or more hours before I eat and teaching the kids can be quite draining. On the other hand, every time I go to the store, or any other convenient store, I need several minutes before I become desperate enough to just take anything that looks like it could taste good. There is a wide selection of junk food shortbread cookies and other British staples, each box appearing to hold maybe 3/4 lbs. of product but actually offering 6 individually wrapped pieces coming to a grand 150g or so. I know I'll just feel worse sooner if I get those, so I try to steer clear. There's also a fruit & toast place on the way to school and that's actually a good snack place. The other day I stopped at one such place near downtown on a whim to sample the goodness I'd heard about. After the usual 3 minute communication struggle I randomly read off an item from the Å佺Ʈ menu (which phonetically is like "TOH-suh-tuh"). The woman was putting something together behind the counter and neatly wrapped it in a wax paper bag. I pointed outside to indicate "To go, take out" so she put the sandwich of sorts in a Tommy Hilfiger stiff paper tote bag... I felt like a king. Yeah, and the sandwich was delicious, all for 1000 won ($1 = 1250 won). Ack, the guy who sat down next to me to play StarCraft just lit up and I'm down wind. I gotta go. Nick Yau Taegu, S.
