NAME
mail_alias - Change UGCS mail alias options
SYNOPSIS
mail_alias [-c] [-r] [options] [address1 address2 ... ]
DESCRIPTION
mail_alias helps you set your mailAlternateAddress settings. A mailAlternateAddress is any other email address you want associated with your account. If it is @ugcs.caltech.edu, mail sent to it will automatically be delivered to you. Otherwise, we can use it to help you reset your password should you ever forget it.
If run with no options, it presents an interactive prompt. If you give it addresses on the command line, it will add them.
OPTIONS
- -h
-
Print a help message
- -r
-
Removes the given addresses instead of adding them
- -c
-
Clear all mail aliases.
- -p
-
Show current mail aliases
- -d
-
Dry run mode- don't actually change anything
- -q
-
Quiet mode- suppresses most output
EXAMPLES
mail_alias
user@gmail.com
Adds user@gmail.com as an alias for this account. If you forget your password, we can send an email to user@gmail.com to reset your password.
mail_alias
exampleaddr
Adds exampleaddr as a mail alias for this account. Email sent to exampleaddr@ugcs.caltech.edu or exampleaddr@ugcs.net will forward to your account.
mail_alias
-r exampleaddr
Removes exampleaddr@ugcs.caltech.edu from this account.
IMPLEMENTATION DETAILS
Since it is possible to use mailAlternateAddress settings to spy on other users' email, you cannot directly write to it. Instead, you need to use a remctl command on dionysus. You can directly add or remove addresses with "remctl dionysus mail_alias add/remove addr1 addr2 ..."
BUGS
Contact sysadmins@ugcs.caltech.edu if you find any bugs.
