Dear UGCS users,

The past few weeks have been busy for UGCS. We recently received $3800 in MHF funding to purchase additional mail storage and a backup system. The backup system will be online in the next few weeks, when we will have full off-site backups to safeguard our cluster against possible catastrophe. The additional disk space has allowed us to raise quotas. The new quota for mail storage will be 500mb, and 2gb for home directories. These raised quotas should be in place by the end of this weekend. As always, if you need additional quota space, let us know and we will strongly consider your request.

With the disposal of the old UGCS 3.0 hardware earlier this month, we have had a chance to work on the lab space. We now have a projector set up, which nicely compliments the lab's existing sound system. In the next few weeks, we will be adding several more graphical login machines.

Most importantly, we are now conducting our annual sysadmin search. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a UGCS sysadmin, please submit our sysadmin survey, which can be found at at http://www.ugcs.caltech.edu/Sysadmin_Survey.xhtml, by April 1, 2008.

We appreciate your continued support of the cluster. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please let us know by emailing sysadmins@ugcs.caltech.edu. We are always looking for ways to improve our cluster and make it more usable and user-friendly.

Regards,

Your UGCS sysadmins (Joshua Hutchins, Matthew Maurer, and Alex Roper)
