Postgres Migration
We will be migrating from PostgreSQL 8.2 to 8.3 near the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year. Updates and how-to's will be posted here, so check back for more information.
Upgrade
We are migrating on the evening/night of September 27. Changes made may be lost, and the database may be inaccessible for portions of the night. Update: 11:59pm: Everything seems to be complete. If you have problems, please contact us.
Testing
To use the new server, have your client connect to host postgres, port 5433 (instead of port 5432). This is a Postgres 8.3 server running in parallel with our main 8.2 server, and it has been seeded with a snapshot of the main Postgres server as of noon on September 12. You can perform testing on it, but any changes made to it will be lost when we do the migration.
If your account was made after September 12, you won't have a testing database. If you would like one, please contact us.
Migration
Near the beginning of the school year (check back for an exact date), we will mark the main Postgres server as read-only, then copy its contents into the new database. Any changes in the test database will be lost. The old server will be kept around for a few weeks in case of any unexpected difficulty, but will not be generally available.
