Email Basics

UGCS provides email and mailing list services for its users. Email can be read through webmail, your local mail client, or can be forwarded to another email address. Mailing lists can be administered through the web at https://hermes.ugcs.caltech.edu/lists/<listname>, or through a command-line program on the login machines.

Webmail

UGCS webmail can be accessed at https://webmail.ugcs.caltech.edu/squirrelmail/ for Squirrelmail or https://webmail.ugcs.caltech.edu for Roundcube. Both services use SSL encryption to ensure your privacy.

IMAP/POP

UGCS email can be accessed through IMAP or POP. To ensure your security and privacy, we only accept encrypted connections. For IMAP or POP, use the server "mail.ugcs.caltech.edu", and make sure SSL encryption is enabled. If you have your own kerberos tokens, you can use GSSAPI to log in as well.

Mail Forwarding and Aliases

UGCS also supports forwarding mail to another address. To set this up, log in and run "mail_forward <address>". See email forwarding for more details. We also support mail aliases, where mail sent to other addresses can be sent to your account. See email aliases

Mailing Lists

To create a mailing list, log in and run "mailman create <listname>" You will then receive a password that you can use to log into to a web frontend, or you can use the command-line interface. See Mailing Lists for more information.
