UGCS Lab

Our lab is located in the basement of Winnett Center. There are stairs to the basement on the west side of the building (the side closer to SFL). Go down the stairs, and go through the door in the middle of the alley. Our lab is the door in front of you- it is labeled "UGCS". You will need a South Master to get in.

We have login machines with large LCD monitors for use, as well as a projector and sound system.

Projector

We have a projector and screen for your use. Please don't forget to turn the projector off, and leave the remote on the center table where it can be found. To use the projector:

  1. Turn the projector on with its remote (please leave the remote on the center table)
  2. Hook the VGA cable labeled "Projector" to the computer your are currently at.
  3. Once you log in, run "nvidia-settings". Go to "X Server Display Configuration", and "Detect Displays". Click on the one for the projector, and set it to "TwinView". You can then hit "Apply", and the projector will be activated.
  4. If your computer does not come up, make sure the projector's source is set to "Computer"

Sound system

We have a stereo system. There is a long headphone extension cable that you can hook up to the front headphone jack on the computers in the lab. Set the stereo to "IPOD" input. You may have to adjust the volume to be able to hear the computer.

Printer

We have a color printer, available at printer.ugcs.caltech.edu. Our login machines should be set up to print to it.

Your Computers

We have IMSS wireless in the lab, so you can use your own laptop if you wish. We also have a few free ethernet cables attached to the switch in the middle of the center table- please do not unplug our machines from the internet as you may disconnect other users. Your computer will get a DHCP address from IMSS's Winnett IP pool.

There is a 25ft KVM cable for hosted machines. Press "ScrollLock" (if that doesn't work, try "PrintScreen") on the keyboard to bring up a menu to switch KVM inputs.
