Web tricks and tips

  • You can password-protect web pages. See web password-protect
  • You can easily set up a mediawiki by running "setup-mediawiki". See mediawiki help. You can update the software by running "update-mediawiki" in that directory.
  • Want your own domain name? UGCS can help! Run "create-vhost", and see virtual hosting for more information.
  • You can see your access logs in /afs/.ugcs/apache-logs/<username> This will help you find errors, as well as see how many people visited your website.
  • We have full PHP and cgi-bin support- you don't have to do anything, it should "just work"
  • You have access to a postgres database. See php help for more information.
