Hackathon Points

These are things that should be done around UGCS and their appropriate point value. They are split in two dimensions:

  • Requires sysadmin / does not require sysadmin
  • Multiple people can do them / only one person can do them. Some items can be done multiple times by multiple people, and everyone gets points. Other things can only be done once. Most of these items, everyone can get points for, but you only get points for doing it once yourself (unless otherwise noted)

Requires Sysadmin

Can be done multiple times

  • Make an edit on the wiki using https/kerberos credentials (1pt)
    • This means you never typed your password into your browser
  • Make an edit to the static documentation (stuff on www.ugcs.caltech.edu/documentation) and have it show up (2pt)
  • Change your password (1pt)
  • Change someone else's password (with their permission) (2pt)

Can be done once

  • Fix Splunk (50pt)
  • Reboot all of the shellservers (3pt / shellserver)
  • Update all of the shellserver packages (10pt)
  • Update all coreservers (5pt / coreserver)
  • Fix the automated password reset program (5pt)
  • Fix all nagios alerts (5pt / alert)
  • Make cron emails go to sysadmin-cron@ (5pt)
