If someone complains that they "can't sign on", here is the list of things to check:
- Do they need to migrate their password? Check hermes:/root/migration_auth.log and grep for their username- it will tell you if they've migrated. If their name doesn't show up, then they haven't migrated.
- Are they trying to.ugcs.caltech.edu? Sometimes people try ugcs.caltech.edu (poseidon), and after it accepts their password, they get kicked off immediately. You can check for this by looking for their username in splunk. You'll probably want to change the search time from 15 minutes to a week or so.
- Have them run "ssh -vvv" to see what is actually going on.
