There are 15 peaks taller than 14000 feet in California, according to most people. This includes some peaks (Starlight,Thunderbolt, and Polemonium) which are not prominent enough to qualify for most definitions of a distinct peak, but which are still interesting enough from an alpinistic perspective to be counted separately.

The peaks are found in two main Sierra groups with outliers in two other ranges:

The Whitney Group

• Mount Langley
• Mount Muir
• Mount Whitney
• Mount Russell
• Mount Tyndall
• Mount Williamson

The Palisades Group

• Split Mountain
• Middle Palisade
• Mount Sill
• Polemonium Peak
• North Palisade
• Starlight Peak
• Thunderbolt Peak

The Outliers

• White Mountain Peak (White Mountains)
• Mount Shasta (Cascade Range)
