  • Nanga Parbat: 2010 movie about Reinhold Messner's [1] tragic first ascent of the Rupal Face on Nanga Parbat in which his brother died. Blackdog 15:12, 1 December 2010 (PST)
  • We do not have any guide book on the Needles. We had one by Moser, Vernon and Paul but sadly it is missing. I think we should get a new one of this, or maybe by some other authors. Any suggestions? Blackdog 22:13, 30 September 2010 (PDT)
  • Our library has a blank for years 1997-2000 and 2004-2009 for the American Alpine Journal, and 1997-2009 for Accidents in American Mountaineering: American Alpine Journal and Accidents in American Mountaineering. I wonder if any of us would be willing to let their journal copies have a nice home in the Club library? Please let me know. Blackdog 21:43, 27 September 2010 (PDT)
  • Michael Kennedy's editorial in Alpinist 31 refers to "Cumbre" by Fulvio Mariani as one of the best climbing films. Rolo Garibotti mentions it in his BD page. Don't know where to find it. It's about Marco Pedrini and Fulvio Mariani on Cerro Torre. Just a thought. Srbecker 17:03, 13 July 2010 (PDT)
  • Yosemite Climber by George Meyers, 1979. A classic that inspired the post-stonemasters age in Yosemite. It's now rare and hence expensive. If we find it for cheap, we should get it. Srbecker 09:26, 27 July 2010 (PDT)
  • Here are some books that people have suggested in the past, but we didn't buy (so they are probably not high priority).
  • First ascent of the Diamond is a new documentary that just came out. A must for Colorado climbers. It's about Bob Kamps and Dave Rearick's 1960 ascent of the Diamond on Longs Peak, and narrated by Bonnie Kamps and Caltech's own Dave Rearick. Srbecker 09:41, 25 March 2011 (PDT)

Books that are not yet out

  • Climbing California's High Sierra, 3rd: The Classic Climbs on Rock and Ice by Moynier. An update to Moynier and Fiddler planned for 2008 or so, but still not out.
  • Yosemite Free Climbs, Don Reid. 3rd edition was supposed to come out in 2008 or so, and it's still not out.

Recently added

  • Harish Kapadia's Meeting the Mountains. The book encompasses almost 35 years of Himalayan travel which allows for a comparison about how it was then and how it is now. Included are serious expeditions with Sir Chris Bonnington to Panch Chuli and Rangrik Rang, the accident and rescue of Stephen Venables, climbing Manirang, exploring Spiti, climbing Lungser Kangri in Rupshu, Ladakh, and exploring passes in the Garhwal. For those less seriously inclined there are lovely treks in Kinnaur, Kumaon, Garhwal, Ladakh and Nepal. These treks and climbs are in some of the areas never heard of before, and there are new trekking suggestions to last for a long time.
  • Another copy of Vogel's old comprehensive Joshua Tree guide (not the "West" guide). The other copies were all checked out, so I think this will be used. Srbecker 10:46, 15 October 2010 (PDT)
  • "Classic Climbs of the Cordillera Blanca, Peru" by Brad Johnson. See [2]
  • Close Ups of the High Sierra. Original essays by Norman Clyde. Amazing word and sketch portrait of the High Sierra as Norman Clyde experienced it.
  • Stonemasters A chronicle of rock climbing in the 1970s in California, you will ogle this book for its splendid photographs and honest recollections. A must read!
