Who am I?

An undergrad. I climb, ride a bike, and have giant thighs due to too much baking. I will probably die of skin cancer or a heart attack. I take care of club gear at the Y and occasionally write grants for more gear. Contact me at hamik@its.

Plans and Partners

Los Angeles is awesome, so I will probably stay here for a long time. In the short-term, I'm interested in cragging at Tahquitz and Joshua Tree and in technical alpine climbs in the Sierra, especially in winter. I lead 10c at Tahquitz/JTree and am particularly interested in exploring winter climbing in Idyllwild after enjoying a bountiful season there in 2010. I spent summer 2009 in Chamonix and summer 2011 in the Cordillera Blanca, and I hope to make my first visit to the Canadian Rockies or the Alaska Range next summer. Ski tours are awesome, and I would eventually like to repeat Orland Bartholomew's epic Whitney to Yosemite ski traverse of the John Muir Trail. This past winter, Nick Stadie and I had an awesome time on the Sierra High Route (Wolverton near Lodgepole to Shepherd Pass trailhead in Owens Valley near Williamson), which we completed in two days (it is about 45 miles, I think?). If you're into trad or alpine climbing and want a partner, send me a message! Check out my Mountain Project profile for what I've been up to and to see if you want to climb together.

Favorite Climbs

  • Chèré Couloir II, WI3+/4 or 350 m, D+, 70-80°. Chamonix, France. Epic scatological story here; ask and ye shall receive.
  • Northeast Face West II, 5.6 in summer and II, AI2, WI3- in winter. Idyllwild, California. See SoCal Ice Climbing for more info.
  • North Ridge of Lone Pine Peak III, 5.5. Sierra Nevada near Lone Pine, California. My first time on this ridge I did it solo in snowy conditions, which was amusing.
  • Nevado Churup M5, 5.7, AI4, 18000 ft. Looms over the town of Huaraz in the Cordillera Blanca of Peru.

Website

I keep most of my trip reports on SummitPost. My ticks are on my Mountain Project profile, but I don't know how religiously I will update that (I started on 10/21/11).
