Student-Faculty Conference
April 5, 2007
SFC Task Force Final Report
The Student-Faculty Conference, held every other year, has traditionally been a forum for discussion between faculty and students during which they problem solve and decide what changes need to be made to various aspects of campus.
In the fall of a Student Faculty Conference year, ARC selects student committee chairs, and then the committee chairs select student and faculty representatives for their committees. In preparation for the conference, these committees then meet 3 – 4 times throughout the course of the year. Some divisions and departments fund lunches/food for these meetings since the feedback and suggestions that come out of them are very important in shaping the future of those divisions and departments.
In April, the committees submit final reports that document their progress and then lead presentation/discussion sections for the entire Caltech campus. On the day of the conference, we encourage professors to cancel classes so they and their students can attend these presentations.
This year is a particularly important one because, in addition to the regular committees, Undergraduate Education and Undergraduate Research committees were formed to help gather information for the WASC Accreditation process.
Be sure to check out the special subcommittee on Bioengineering (4:30pm-5:00pm, 070 Moore), who will be presenting major findings through survey results and holding a student-faculty discussion regarding the possible creation of a Bioengineering major for undergraduates.
