By the time Jason was finished with his studies, he had tired of the academic life. He'd recieved good offers from Princeton and Stanford, but it was Harvard's offer that most intrigued him. If he were to accept their offer, they would pay for him to take a year-long sabbatical before he began his work there.

In a short note to his mentor Jennifer Lowell, Jason outlined his plans for the future:

How are you? All's well here. Decided to try Harvard. They'll pay for me to take sabbatical before I even begin! Going to India. You know how I love good curry! I'm writing grants day and night, trying to get $ so I can do some research there. A friend is over there, Abe Mehta, trying to get his life together. Living in the old family house, all alone. Suppose I'm trading company for rent. Whoring myself already!
