Abraham and Jason sat in the parlor, listening to the radio. Things were not well. The tensions in Africa had spread elsewhere, pitting the world's 50 nuclear states against each other in a huge game of chicken.

"Jason was crying, stomping around the house. I was still in a state of denial. I mean, how could the people of the world just dust themselves for no reason?"

It was during this time of turmoil that Jason decided it was better to work than to worry. As he recalled shortly after the incident:

"I went to the lab out back to try to do some work. I noticed that the riots had spread even to the country, where we were.

"I was shaking from anxiety. I started setting up the equipment when I heard the air raid siren. I ran for the house, but there was a mob all around.

"I ran back into the lab, and knew there was only one thing I could do. I started everything up, hit the switch, and ran to the house.

"There was a piercing whine, the lightbulbs all exploded, and the next thing I knew I was waking up, bleeding, on the kitchen floor."
