The transition from suburb to university was not an easy one. Jason had a great deal of difficulty making friends, perhaps because he'd moved around so much as a youth.

Abraham Mehta recalls his first meeting with Jason Reilly as a wholly unremarkable experience:

"We [Abraham and Mark Kilby] were sitting in our dorm room shooting the breeze when Jason walked up and stood in the doorway. We exchanged pleasantries, and he left. It had happened a dozen times that day, so it was no big deal. He was just another new freshman."
