The Dolphins
Third term, Nate Austin ('02) decided to indulge his artistic side.  And that he did.

Nate first started talking about the dolphins second term.  When he did, we all thought he was crazy, but at the same time, we knew that once he started talking about something, it was as good as done...
Sure enough, Nate secured funding from the house, from ASCIT, and from various other sources on campus.  With help from Celeste and various others around the house, Nate cut and textured dozens of copper triangles.  They made three eight-foot dolphin shapes out of steel mesh and then used an oxy/acetylene welder to bring life to the dolphins.
That May, the triad of dolphins could be found leaping over Millikan Bridge in the center of campus, where they received enormous amounts of attention and praise.  Various Caltech newsletters featured the dolphins on the front page, and students and administration alike praised them.
Unfortunately, the stand was damaged while in place around the bridge.  We moved the dolphins to Blacker for safekeeping, and they now hang from the 5A balcony overlooking our courtyard.
