First term: electronic structure of atoms, periodic properties, ionic substances, covalent bonding, Lewis representations of molecules and ions, shapes of molecules, Lewis acids and bases, Bronsted acids and bases, chemical equilibria. Second term: oxidation and reduction, thermodynamics, and kinetics. Third term: special topics selected from contemporary chemical research emphasizing chemical reactivity, stereochemistry, and the characterization and properties of organic compounds and biomacromolecules."
