So much has happened in the past few days. It seems that Habbakuk has been watching over me. I have met a fine group of adventurers, and Korra and I have made some new friends. There is currently a grand festival going on in our honor...
There is much to explain... I will start from the beginning.
On March 9, Sir Willem called me into his office with some fantastic news. I was to be assigned the position of Freelance Knight. This would allow me to explore the land, performing Knightly services for those in need. Sir Willem showed me a parchment which called for a group of able-bodied adventurers to collect at the Solamnic Keep in Fearfold. The miisive said nothing about the purpose. Sir Willem wanted me to be there. The collection was in a little over 3 weeks, on April 1, so I had a little time to prepare.
Sir Willem also told me of a fellow who he wished me to travel with down to the Keep. Apparently, this man was curently in jail! I was barely able to hold back my surprise. Why would Sir Willem ask me to travel with such a person? But, I chose to withhold my judgement until I was able to meet the person myself. I then thanked Sir Willem heartily for this opportunity, and bid him goodday. Right before I left, he made a very strange comment about my never seeing him again. At the time, I dismissed it.
The fellow was housed in the jail in Kalaman, run by Sir Ringwald, a ranking Knight of the Crown. He was quite helpful, and led me to Argus, the man I was to take with me. When I saw this Argus, my jaw dropped. He was a minotaur! I remember stories from the War of the Lance of the great and cursed minotaur warriors that plagued the Knights. They were supposed to be evil, malicious, and merciless. This one looked no different.
Still, I was determined to see my orders through. There must have been some reason Sir Willem wanted this minotaur to come with me. So, I approached the somewhat intimidating figure, and had a discussion with him. His name was indeed Argus, and he was a minotaur from lands far away. He had just recently arrived in Kalaman by boat, when he was insulted and attacked by some men in a bar. Obviously, there has been no love lost between the people from Solamnia and the minotaurs.
The ruffians were in the same jail, but a different cell. While Argus had been straightforward and truthful, these curs were shifty and evasive. Almost immediately, I could see that Argus was clearly innocent of his alleged crimes. It took me scant minutes to fool the bandits into admiting their guilt.
After a brief talk with Sir Ringwald, Argus was free, and I was one step closer to a new beginning.
I told Argus of Sir Willem's orders and the offer that was sent from Fearfold. He seemed to have nowhere else to go, and agreed to come along. At this point, traveling with this minotaur did not seem as bad an idea as I had thought it would be. After one more week in Kalaman, we departed with a small band of Knights.
During our journey, we learned a bit more about the goings on around the border. Apparently, the blue army was beginning to act up more, and there had been increased sightings of goblinoids. We would have to be careful. I was also able to talk more to Argus, and get to know him a little better. He was definitely not the kind of minotaur I had always heard about. His morals were fair, and he was an honest man. At times, he struck me as a little violent in his mannerisms, but we all have our faults.
