Lyam Dokaan sees himself as flawed and imperfect person who has been given a second chance with the Knights. His past life was one that he was not proud of in the least, so now he does whatever he can to show that he has changed. He thinks being a Knight of Solamnia is the perfect way to redeem himself.
He holds his honor highest in his sights. He thinks the Code and the Measure represent the most noble things a person can strive for. He realizes, though, that some people don't strive for these goals. He tries not to judge them, or force his ideas upon them. He understands that the Code and Measure are sometimes too high to be reached, and so can not be seen by all.
The only thing in his life that may be more important to him than his honor, is his faithful dog, Korra. Lyam got Korra as a puppy during his first year in training with the Knights. Because of his dark skin and strange accent, Lyam has always been an outsider. He's not very outgoing, and doesn't have any friends. The only person he talks to with any regularity is his mentor, Sir Claudius Willem. Korra is his only real companion.
