High Races

Humans

This the most numerous and versatile race in Pai-Lau. They tend to fit in almost anywhere, from the richest to the poorest communities. For a high race, they tend to do a lot of slumming.

Elves

Elves are known for their arrogance and magical prowess. They almost always inhabit lands where they are assured to have a strong influence. For the most part, this means either the Rule of Law or the High Kingdom.

Dwarves

Very solitary for a high race, Dwarves tend to keep themselves seperated from the other races. They have a strong racial pride and unity, due in large part to the existence of a true Dwarven kingdom.

Gnomes

Highly skilled in both wizardry and technology, Gnomes are a strange new addition to the world of Pai-Lau. The history of this race, like its kingdom, remains a mystery. Although not technically a "High Race", gnomes have managed to ensure their political power in Pai-Lau through their trading prowess.

Low Races (Gegs)

Half-Elves

Seen as unwanted and unnatural results of innapropriate unions, Half-Elves are rarely accepted into the upper eschelons of society. They tend to get by as self-sufficient loners.

Half-Orcs

Half-orcs rarely enter any of the "civilized" kingdoms (except as slaves), preferring to stay in the Scavenger Lands, where they have at least the possibility of being accepted as a person.

Halflings

When Merist was discovered, Halflings were a depressed, downtrodden race. Since that time, they have flocked to the Old Continent, and have discovered more of their mischevious nature.
