An Essay by Chris Brichford

I am incapable of being a true fanatic. I have decided to have an open mind which leaves me incapable of taking a position which I can claim is any more legitimate than any other. In many cases when I'm talking to someone about anything of any interest I end up taking the opposing view point. In most cases I have no desire to be combative nor do I particularly disagree with the person I'm talking to. In most cases I'm just trying to understand what would lead someone to an opposing viewpoint. I have come the conclusion that to convince someone that you are right you must attack the assumption that led them to thier conclusion.

Listed below are several discussions I was involved in that display the behaviour I'm talking about. In all these case I didn't really feel passionately in one direction or the other.
