Blink of an Eye
You said you saw
More me than anyone else
I tried to warn you
Terrified that you would listen to me
Peeling back onion-flavored layers of my soul
Crying over me into the sink
But sure that this time
We had reached the core
Well here we are
And inevitably
You blinked
Giant eyelashes
Brushing aside the last fragile specks of dreamland
And reality stumbles to life
Virgin eyes squinting from behind tired lids
As all the easy promises become hard
