The Candle and the Darkness

Quiet but warm
Banishing the darkness that I created from myself
For myself
She burns
But is not consumed
While a smile is all the thanks we can show
And all that we need
To reassure each other
Of our uniqueness and our similarity
The quiet candle and the loud nonexistent darkness
Unsure which is which and who is whom
Meet after years, and touch for an hour
And part, unchanged
Except for an old newfound warmth shared by both
