The title of this site, Charivaria, is fondly taken from the title of the newspaper column of Jon Robinson 98. He wrote for the Kent News in his three years at Kent and served as editor-in-chief in his senior year. Those of you who have read his explanation of the title of the column know that Charivaria, is defined by Webster as A mock serenade of discordant noises made with kettles and tin pans with the intent to criticize or comment upon. Historically used in France in the derision of marriages and other events. Charivaria, was, for a short period of time, a title in the turn of the century publication Punch for commentary, satirical or otherwise, on society, current affairs and the arts.
