Inaugural Caltech Dancesport Competition


Rules



Level Eligibility for International and American Events
Newcomer
Newcomers are for couples who have started competitive dancing on or after September 1, 2003.
Beginner
Predominantly Bronze level, leeway will be allowed for up to two Silver level figures. To dance a style in Beginner, you must be YCN-eligible to dance all five dances in that style at the Bronze level.
Intermediate / Advanced
Silver/Gold level. To dance a style in Intermediate/Advanced, you must be eligible to dance all five dances in that style at the respective YCN level.
Open – Level 1
Recommended for pre-novice, novice level dancers at NDCA/USABDA competitions. Open choreography allowed.
Open – Level 2
Recommended for novice and up at NDCA/USABDA. Open choreography allowed.
Note: Competitors may compete in up to two adjacent levels in each event. For instance, it is acceptable for a couple to dance in Beginner and Intermediate/Advanced Standard Waltz and then also compete in Intermediate/Advanced and Open – Level 1 Latin.



Costume Restrictions for International and American Events
Newcomer
No costumes allowed.
Beginner
No costumes allowed.
Intermediate / Advanced
Costumes are recommended but optional.
Open – Level 1
Costumes are strongly recommended.
Open – Level 2
Costumes are strongly recommended.
Note: All competitors must wear non-marking shoes (i.e., no street shoes). Female competitors wearing heels must use heel guards.



Level Eligibility for Nightclub Events
Level 1
Level 1 is intended for those couples who have just started or have minimal experience dancing indicated nightclub dances.
Level 2
Level 2 is intended for those couples who have moderate to extensive experience dancing indicated nightclub dances.
Note: Competitors may only compete in one level per event.



Formation Team Guidelines

Formation teams may base their routines on any Standard, Latin, Smooth, and/or Rhythm dances. Due to time restrictions, teams participating in this event will be limited to a maximum performance time of 10 minutes.



Team Match Guidelines

The team match will consist of 5 dances (to be announced on the day of competition). It is required that 5 unique couples be used to form one team. Please note, however, that one leader can dance in two events with different followers (this will be seen as two unique couples).



General Guidelines / Disclaimers
  1. Absolutely no food or drinks inside the gymnasium. The only exception is water in spill-proof containers.
  2. Cell phones must be switched to off, silent, or vibrate modes. Competitors and spectators who violate this rule repeatedly will be removed from the gymnasium (note: competitors who are removed shall be considered disqualified from all preceeding and future events). People who are removed will not be refunded their competition/entrance fee.
  3. The CBDC is not liable for any injuries that may occur during the course of this event. All persons at this event compete/attend at their own risk.
  4. The CBDC is not responsible for any property that is stolen or damaged during the course of this event. All participants/attendees are responsible for their own belongings.
  5. The CBDC reserves the right to cancel any events and/or change the schedule at any time.
