Ecphonema (ek-FAH-nem-uh) n. A crying out with voice; a vocal outburst of emotion. (Adapted from Webster's)Ecphonema is a men's a cappella group founded in 1997 to help bring a cappella music to the Caltech community and surrounding areas. We maintain a large and varied repertoire, and perform all around the US.
What the heck is a cappella? Think you know? It might be different than you think! The a cappella craze has been sweeping the nation for over a decade. Vocal music is reawakening as an art form in its own right. No longer limited to choral, barbershop and do-wop, any kind of music can be performed without instruments. Our repertoire is an eclectic mix reminiscent of traditional men's a cappella groups, but our style and focus is on new, edgy, rock material. We try to be a true vocal band rather than a traditional choral group.
