Ecphonema
is a men's a cappella group founded in 1997 to help bring a cappella
music to the Caltech community
and surrounding areas. We maintain a large and varied repertoire, and
perform all around the US.
Our repertoire is an eclectic mix reminiscent
of traditional men's a cappella groups, but our style and focus is on new,
edgy, rock material. We try to be a true vocal band rather than a
traditional choral group.
To contact Ecphonema regarding booking,
or for other information (like getting on our fan e-mail list!), please send
email to our official contact people at ecphonema@ugcs.caltech.edu.

Ecphonema
(ek-FAH-nem-uh) n.
A crying out with voice; a vocal outburst of emotion.
(Adapted from Webster's)
The a cappella craze has been sweeping the nation for over a decade.
Vocal music is reawakening as an art form in its own right.
No longer limited to choral, barbershop and do-wop, any kind of music
can be performed without instruments. We want to help Caltech to be part
of that movement. If you're curious, follow the link to some
great media articles
about the a cappella movement. Also, while you're here, please go meet
our friends the Treble Makers,
Caltech's women's a cappella group, and
Out of Context,
the newest addition to Caltech's a cappella scene.
