The Doom Eagles
My "personal" Space Marine chapter is the Doom
Eagles, introduced (very) briefly in Codex: Ultramarines. The Doom
Eagles are one of the Primogenitor chapters, created following the Horus
Heresy during the massive reorganization of the surviving Space Marine
Legions known as the Second Founding. The Doom Eagles' robust geneseed
was derived directly from that of the Ultramarines Legion, and thus out
of all the Loyalist first founding chapters, the Doom Eagles' closest kinship
is with the Ultramarines. The Doom Eagles regard the Ultramarines
and the other Primogenitor chapters as brothers, both in battle and in
blood, and they revere the Ultramarines' Primarch Roboute Guilliman as
their own. Fundamental to the character of the Doom Eagles is their
respect for Guilliman's immense strategic and organizational prowess; the
Doom Eagles adhere firmly to the Codex Astartes that Guilliman laid out
to govern the tactics and organization of all the Space Marine chapters.
The Doom Eagles' reverence for the Emperor,
and in particular the icon of the Imperial Eagle, outdistances even this
feeling though. In the litanies of the chapter, the Emperor is alluded
to as a great eagle, sure of sight, sure of mind, fast of wing and lord
of all he surveys. The Emperor protects and defends all of humankind
from the likes of horrible predators from the warp, alien invaders, and
heresy from within, in the same manner as the great eagle keeps its young
safe from predators, invaders, and discord. As the Imperial Eagle
sees all, and at the first sign of danger is ready to plummet earthwards
to inflict horrible injury, defeat, and death on its foes, so too must
the Doom Eagles be ever-vigilant, ready at the first sign of danger to
eradicate the enemies of the Emperor and mankind. The Doom Eagles'
devotion to the protection of their charges is absolute and unbendable.
The "Eagle" motif of the Doom Eagles can be
seen in their relatively frequent use of Lighting Claws as weapons for
close-combat oriented characters. The "standard" character Lightning
Claw is actually more of a Talon, with three wickedly curved, powered blades
attached to the back of a relatively standard power glove housing.
The Doom Eagles armor is silver, with red chest
eagles, weapon casings, backpacks, and so on. Exposed wires and cords
are black, as well as exposed weapon barrels, clips, blades, etc.
Organizational markings follow the guidelines laid down by the Codex Astartes,
with markings for Tactical, Assault, and Devastator squads identical to
those used by the Ultramarines chapter. The company color of each
marine in power armor is mirrored on his right kneepad, or right lower
leg if using power armor without kneepads (Mk 6 legs). Segeants have
red helmets, while squad leaders have silver helmets with a red stripe
down the center. Veterans (and thus all Terminators) have white helmets,
and Veteran Sergeants (both in power armor and terminator armor) have red
helmets with a white stripe down the center.
For the moment, that is all the "fluff" that
I really have had the time to work out completely and write down.

Captain Thyrsus of the 3rd Company (Commander)
Standard Equipment: Artificer Armor,
Bionics, Terminator Honors, Frag & Krak Grenades, Bolter/Plasma Combi-Weapon,
Lightning Claw (single). Cost: 133 points.
Notice the Lightning Claw - All of the Lightning
Claws on power-armored troops in the army are conversions, using various
Power Fists (either modeled on the miniature, plastic off the current CC
weapon sprue, or as this one off the old Beakie marine sprues) along with
three SM combat knives that have been shaved down and attached, with putty
to build up the talon's "knuckle." |

Kyros, 1st Dreadnought of the 1st Company
Standard Equipment: Plasma Cannon, Heavy
Flamer and Dreadnought CCW. Optional Equipment: Terminator
Honors and Purity Seals. Cost: 125 / 145 points.
Note that the Terminator Honors and Purity
Seals are not normally available to Dreadnoughts; thus I have decided to
give Kyros "semi-character" status, due to his special nature as a Dreadnought
of the 1st (Veteran) Company. The Purity Seals have absolutely no
effect, since Dreadnoughts never take Morale checks, so that the overall
effect of these two items is just to give Kyros +1 Attack. I feel
that this is balanced for +20 points (the total cost of the two items).
Both of these items are modeled on Kyros himself. |

Tychon, 2nd Dreadnought of the 3rd Company
Standard Equipment: Assault Cannon,
Storm Bolter and Dreadnought CCW. Cost: 105 points.

Right now, my only finished miniature
which is not scanned and thus pictured above is a Predator tank.
I don't know what I'm going to do about that, as I don't think I'll be
able to get a particularly good scan using my current method. Oh
well, if anybody has had any success scanning in tanks & other big
vehicles directly, or if you have any ideas for how I might accomplish
it, drop me a line and let me know.
