California native garden
We like the native wildlife and chapparal plants of Southern California. We are also very lazy. This garden requires almost no water or maintenance and attracts all kinds of interesting birds, butterflies, and insects.

While not as lush and year-round colorful as a typical garden, this garden takes advantage of the regional climate. We might water most plants once a month. Others, less. Late autumn is peak for flowers, spring for fruits, but something is always blooming.

For reference, this garden is located about 30 miles inland, meaning summers are hotter and drier and winters are colder and rainer than locations closer to the coast. This garden is approximately 20' x 40'. Most of the garden gets about 90% of the day's sun in the summer, and about 60% in winter. Some parts of the garden get as little as 10% of direct sun. None of the garden is completely shaded.
