In some of the older bits and pieces that were ultimately rejected from
the Dunheasa / Telcontar stories, some of the characters' names have
changed and/or evolved. In particular, in the very early drafts Tarathorn
was Tara and Ivan was Radu. Some of the school names have also shifted
around over time.
Original
idea for sequel to Whispers from Afar This was long before I came up
with the Dunheasa that manifests itself in the newer stories. Originally
Dunheasa was the name of the palace of the Tuonela in the city of
Taipalos. Somehow this idea just didn't really stick, even though a lot
of names did stick around, particularly Dunheasa and Telcontar. And
Vincent still gets stuck with Telcontar in some form or another in the
more recent stories :) Who knows, maybe I'll have another story involving
Andraste, Billie-Joe/Joanna, and Kit... Parts of this did make it into the
Peek at the Geeksters though.
The
original beginning to Telcontar Restored then I decided that the
Killer Parakeet and Tindariel pairing was going to obscure the
Geeksters... Although Tindariel did make it to the final cut of Telcontar,
just a much older and subdued version without the potty-mouth. Maybe
there will be a full-blown Killer Parakeet and Tindariel story soon
though. No story involving Killer Parakeet is complete without him
either destroying something or showing his dazzling intelligence!
Another
alternate beginning to Telcontar Restored. It just didn't quite work
plus having a bunch of potty-mouthed teenagers (or twenty-somethings)
didn't seem to sit that well with me. Also, John just struck me as too
much of a cross between Killer Parakeet and Thomas from Journey to
Dunheasa.
Rejected opening for the sequel to Telcontar Restored. I just didn't
quite like the opening for some reason. I don't know why, but it just
didn't feel right. It might come back in another part of the story
though, but it just didn't give me the right springboard to write on.
Early
incarnation of something from Telcontar/Imladrien This was a bit of
a prototype of Tarathorn (still when she was identified as Tara Luo)
getting a bit of training in combat and magic in Palindor with some of
the more notorious denizens.
Sample
chapter that may or not make it into the sequel to The Lay of
Imladrien tentatively titled Swan-Song. Killer Parakeet is back...
maybe. Added 2009-03-01
Rejected
Sequel to Telcontar Restored (Children of the Veil in the
Compilation) This was the original concept for the sequel to bring
Killer Parakeet back but got rejected in favor of The Lay of Imladrien
and Tinuvion and Swan-Song. Killer Parakeet's voracious appetite still
makes it into Swan-Song. Added 2009-07-24.
