May 5, 2000

Present: IHC, Nathan Flowers-Jacobs, Stephen Wexler.

Meeting called to order in Page dining hall.

The IHC is getting feedback from current student members of the Student-Faculty committees.
Academic Policies and Curriculum listens to petitions of those who want to get out of requirements. They added ECE. There is some rubber stamping, such as changing a course from a to b. Occasionally, something important comes up. They review changes in the catalog, so they have been busy recently. They typically meet once per month.
Dana asks who is in charge.
Harvey Newman is in charge. He tries to build consensus, but he assumes that if you don't say something, you agree, so you need to speak up.
Nathan talks about Financial Aid and Scholarships, which deals with frosh merit scholars and presidential and merits. Their main task is upperclass merit scholarships, on which the student members have an equal vote. It is a big time commitment around now because they are reviewing merit scholarships. It is more formal than the curriculum committee. Currently, there are three student reps.
Stephen talks about Food Rep stuff. Every rep showed up to the last meeting. He wants to make up pie charts with CDS's spending. He believes that the numbers are: 30 % food costs, lots for labor, and 15 % for overhead. Also coming up: formal meals, Chandler dinner, and In'N'Out day. The winners of the survey have not yet received their prizes.
Disco: Bl v. Ru today at volleyball. Da challenges winner.
The IHC will meet Sunday to apportion freshmen between the houses. The house presidents should figure out the number of spots in their house.

Meeting adjourns.

Respectfully submitted,

Vanessa Sih
