IHC Minutes, 02-25-03
Present: IHC, with special guests Jeremy Pitts (not quite IHC Chair, but acting the role), Juan Rodriguez (introducing
new Ricketts prez Natalia Deligne), and Tom Fletcher (thats ASCIT prez to you)
Meeting called to order in the Ricketts dining hall.
Signups are up for IHC Secretary, Ath Man, and Food Chair, as well as for CRC Reps. They will be taken down Tuesday
March 4th at 5pm. Interviews for the IHC positions will start at 10pm on that Tuesday, and the CRC interviews will be
the following Wednesday. Which puts me out of two jobs!
The Alumni Association wants more interaction between students and the alumns of each house. Provided they give us
food, we agree that this wouldn't be a bad thing. They suggest a barbeque followed by people splitting up and talking
by house. We suggest that desserts at each house would make us much more sociable.
Kim West wants to meet with the IHC and some off-campus reps to discuss the off-campus lottery at noon on Tuesday.
Everyone but me will go, and there are calls for lunch at the Ath.
The question of using members of the soccer and basketball teams as semi-permanent refs in those sports was tabled until
the election of the new Ath Man. Jessie likes the idea of credits for houses refing more in a particular sport, and
Natalia suggests maybe having faculty or grad students ref.
Tom (as in Vanderslice) complains about ITS locking up the network switches. Other prezs complain too. He is going
questing to get the key to the cage.
Mike (as in Davenport) asks about who maintenance is supposed to report to when the move things around-- the answer,
apparently, is to the Damage Rep. Go Damage Rep!
Natalia noticed that the Faculty Board has created Ad Hoc committees to look into the role of the Undergraduate Dean
(maybe making it into an administrative position?), and into the size of the institue. But outrage-- they haven't
included students on these committees! We decide that the matter must be looked into.
Prefrosh weekend is shortened this year. Reasons, according to admissions, include: impending midterms, lower costs
(especially for food), and because a high up in Student Affairs decreed it to be so. Marcus notes that this was
discussed last year, and was only kept from happening by vigorous debate by Marcus and Chris Brennen (yay for Chris
Brennen!!!!). We all decide that having the frosh around on Saturday is very important, because it is the one time when
we are not busy with work and can actually sit down and talk with our prefrosh, and also because many houses have events
scheduled then.
In talking to Ricketts alumns, Natalia has learned that there used to be students (the BOC) involved in the appeals
process, working with the President. She would like students once again to be part of the process.
Yay for fire!
Alrighty folks, over and out.
