Minutes
February 10, 2004
Present: All
Guest: Jane Curtis, Habib, Yuan, Kulsolm, Alex
Shim
New IHC Chair: Kim!
Jane Curtis: for health
survey-needed to talk to student leaders ' us! :
National College
Health Assessment-comprehensive on line survey that will help get
feedback from students that Jane needs to do her job right
In the
process of getting money and marketing for it
Perception and use will
both be surveyed
Protective and other factors
Become part of
aggregate national data set
Next Tuesday the survey go up
Goal:
help in knowing how to help people on campus
Some sample questions
will be up on board soon
Students NEED to take survey
Friday
students will get info on survey from Jane (it is confidential,
voluntary)
Tuesday survey will come out from the National
Organization-says "Jane's" name
Don't want email to be buried in
Inbox-want people to take it!
Again everything is
confidential…
Data only used by Jane: not health center, women's
center, etc… ' only Jane
Survey only available for 10 days
$1300
worth of prizes: restaurant discount, dvd, itunes, $300 cash prize (house
with highest response), etc
They'll give house percentage and 50
emails
Work with data in summer-give data back in Fall
Not house
dependent-no difference what the houses do, etc
Took A LOT of
time-won't be able to do this again for another few years-means a lot to
do this now
What will it be used for? Challenges and
Choices?-maybe
Why important for survey to go through third
party?-it's a better system; third party means secure
Response Rate:
looking for 50%--wow that's impressive!
How to get that: Health
Ad announcements, prizes, house money
Encourage your house-encourage
ppl…etc
Where will signs be? All over :
Meeting with
Margo
Capra: --special talk for Kim-
Last year met with Toms
and they talked about selling Capra…okay give us some student retreat
site…they promised us one…then they were going to write something
promising us this-didn't happen!
Some people didn't want to put
the money from sale to student retreat cite or endowment for students
Margo talked to Baltimore, and they both want to student retreats :
How much? Original $50,000 a year ($1 million endowment-most of
sale)
Dropping it to $30,000 (includes houses, clubs, grad,
etc)
The man has spoken-so it will happen
Some
people think that we should ask for the $50,000-things are getting
expensive
Selling Capra will help save money
Will there be a
formal website to have places ppl can go to retreat? Not now-Tom
know's
Arrange it through Tom…so he knows a lot…just ask him
Natalia thinks that there should be a list of possible places and the
costs…
What to do? Kim will figure it out :
Renovations
Went to Trustees-building and grounds committee
Presented it and
their response: told her to go back and consider more options
This is good. Why? To make this feasible, there would be no swing
housing…, etc
Told her to reconsider a swing house
Put the north and south houses as one project
Margo meet with
Trustees in March (meet again with building and ground ones and finance
ones)
Layout will be what?
TURLI report…discussion
what it is, etc
In March-if things pass, then they will start
Student Center-Feldblum said that we need to have a meeting with campus
center group to go over what's been done and how input has been used,
etc
Presidential avery thing shouldn't happen during those years for
housing purposes
Faculty Board Meeting
Hunt presented our
report-no one cared
One question, students need to take responsibility
for damaging-will they be okay: Jeremy YES
Registering for classes
online
Overlapping classes? Can't register off-the collar, have
to have a good reason-BAD news
Right now, pre-over ride
Registrar will hopefully take out
Enrollment time now two weeks-with
this system, G students get priority first week; UG get to use second
week
Go on, submit classes, email to advisor, they have to go
in and approve…
For us March 4-March 10
Add and Drop Day
Paper ' will be changed later
Keep adding features
Still double check to make sure ppl taking what they should? Reserves
spots in classes once click okay
Avery issue
Spoke to
Margo-stalled because nothing new heard from Avery Committee
Well
advertised that kicked out for the summer? Fighting against it
Do
they know how many spots open for students? 50 sports for each program (2
programs), said that they will find sports for Grad students
Kim said
that meet with IHC end of term and then organize a housing committee
meeting very end of term
Food Stuff
Thurs 9 AM: start
interviewing for Melissa replacement
Find someone in next two
weeks
Take top two finalists to dinner in two of houses
Tell them
about houses, etc
Ryan Farmer and Natalia will do most of
questioning
