IHC Meeting in Ruddock

Avery
Kim and Penny met with Yuan Sun and other Avery Council to discuss Avery issues
Alex and Neil were there too
Why they want Frosh in Avery and why we don't think it's a good idea
Final point: need to see support in Avery-lots of people that want to see frosh in Avery
The Grad students in Avery will also have to agree
The grad students hated having FSI students there during the summer
Do a survey in Avery-maybe see it before they do it?
There needs to be a core group of people in the House that support it
Large group of people that want it to be a community
They do have social events that people attend-how many people attend
Can they sustain a community?
Like it or not Avery has a sterile reputation, and so until they can change that, the people in Avery aren't going to have a good community
Making Avery a community-people that are involved in more than one House, so that can work
Is it better to have an Avery House or is it good to have a place for Frosh to go to third term?
That's more important, and what's the point of getting this going, if not a good idea

He thinks that the only thing that is missing is a support system
Was very accusatory
Want to write a letter to Kim Border saying the issues and that it isn't a good idea
People don't think it's a good idea
If everyone is kicked out during the summer, then will continuity be preserved?
Respond to Kim Border?
If want to respond to his questions-respond separately
Want to respond to the whole concept-do it as a community
Come up with a unified response-it's not just a support system
First found in 1996, there was a community
Concerns for freshman in Avery
They can leave the Houses and go to Avery if they are really unhappy-talk to Housing
Last year the people living in Avery are given a chance to fill 1/3 of the House prior to Housing stuff, they didn't fill the quota
Make Avery an eighth House?
Is there any point to having meeting on Wed?
What's the purpose of having freshmen in Avery
Ask why they moved to Avery
Ask if they are enthusiastic or "apathetic"
Do internal surveys to see what people on our side think
Work with Housing office or Alumni
Talk to them about the survey, etc-suggest and such
Any other concerns? Have them tell Border not to do anything because they are not ready yet
Have they met yet? Not yet-but they should
