IHC Minutes: March 10, 2004
meeting called to order in Dabney House
all present, no guests
- new ARC reps
- Dabney: Dorota Korta (same as last year - no one else wanted it)
- Page: Zhongyi Li (also - Tom Jurczak is the new BOC rep)
- Ricketts: Gregory Stachelek
- housing lottery
- housing wants fall on-campus housing done by April 26 (would only have estimate of # of incoming frosh, final # comes later), summer lotteries by May 17
- everyone agrees this is all really early - people won't have time to try and find off-off campus housing (need to sign leases, etc.), also would rather not base frosh numbers on just an estimate
- reason for being early is that lotteries have to go in order: fall on-campus, fall off-campus, then summer; no one in Avery for summer means they need more time to figure out summer housing, so everything gets pushed earlier
- try to get them to push dates back - even a week would help
- housewarming gift for Margo
- Margo moved into new house last week - IHC wants to get her a gift
- Kim says we should buy a flower, suggests a purple orchid (no bad connotations, we think)
- Hesper will buy it, we'll drive to Margo's house later tonight to give her flower and card
- prefrosh in Avery, frosh in Avery, other Avery issues
- IHC is meeting with Mike Herrera from admissions again this Friday to discuss prefrosh issue
- if it does happen - get them to spend at least one night in houses?
- if it doesn't - maybe encourage prefrosh to eat lunch in Avery (another way to give them exposure to it)
- Kim will find out from Margo who would officially need to approve decision re: frosh
- IHC will meet next week to work on presentation to housing committee (March 31)
- Tom Mannion wants to meet with us to go over presentation before we give it to housing committee
- Avery is going to have general elections for a president - for Pageboys, voting for elections in another house would violate Page's bylaws
- IHC wants to eat lunch in Avery to promote general discussion on Friday
- housing renovations
- swing housing too expensive, so decision now between modular housing vs. moving undergrads to the Cats (and kicking out grad students)
- all of IHC agrees modular housing is the way to go
- athletics
- what's happening with tennis?
- suggested that Jeff call a meeting with ath men from all houses
