IHC Minutes: October 15, 2004
meeting called to order in Blacker
all present but Zac and Jingles; guests: Chuck Yee, Andrew Kwok
- need to figure out layout of modular units by Thursday
- Chuck and Andrew met last night, came up with a bunch of options
- things to consider: courtyards, keeping houses together, location of RA and multipurpose units
- seems best to put 2 houses together on north lawn, but then no RA unit near them
- might have to chop down some trees...
- probably okay if it's small ones, but there are 2 big trees we can't touch
- lots of ideas thrown out, don't want to decide without Zac and Jingles
- room layouts within mods
- main choice: 4 triples in each, 2 singles, 2 doubles, and 2 triples in each, or 4 singles and 4 doubles in
each
- problem - if split room into double and single, they'll be the same size as each other (not really
fair...)
- if all triples, people can put up curtains as temporary partitions - might be good enough
- damage stuff
- administration thinks students not governed by honor code in houses
- want students to pay for damage out of pocket
- even accidental damage? sounds like yes... not happy with this decision
- need extra meeting next week to discuss mod layout before Thursday
- the infamous charge
- might be enough for us to say we'll talk to appropriate people before making changes
- want more communication with trustees
- could set up meetings, 2 or 3 students with a trustee
- a lot of them live far away - maybe phone conversations
- some administrators want to get to know more students
- Margo Marshak - could come to house dinners, talk to students in lounge beforehand
- Erica O'Neal - go to lunches with a few students at a time
- interhouse parties won't work the same way next year for S. Houses
- lots of complications with mods and renovations
- maybe go back to old version of interhouse, one big party with all houses
