IHC Minutes: October 22, 2004
meeting called to order in Dabney
all present; guest: Jeff Kaufman
- Jeff - Avery wants interhouse team
- would it hurt anyone?
- easier to wait until next year when they become a house?
- what about grad students?
- Avery has about 20... would they automatically be on the ath list, or have to be approved?
- makes sense for it to be automatic, but then feasible that only grad students would come out for a game - not good!
- Jeff will talk to other ath men to get their perspectives
- idea brought up by Max Zavodny - get him to talk to other ath men, maybe talk to us too
- suggestion that if not in interhouse, Avery can still challenge other houses to sports as a social event
- mod layouts
- Tim sent us most recent setup that architects approved - looks pretty good in general
- try to move a multipurpose room to other side, so don't have one house with both MP rooms
- how to split up MP rooms? - will have to decide whether to specify 2 houses for each, or just leave both open to all houses
- the charge - how to deal with damage?
- do not want individual students charged by institute
- houses should get charged, then they can choose to charge individuals
- Jingles - need to clarify definitions of "damage," "wear and tear," etc.
- also would like chance for students to fix damage themselves (cheaper, lets us take responsibility)
- everyone okay with taking away extra unused matching funds? - seems like it, but don't bring it up unless
housing/IAC threatens to take away matching funds entirely
- Quimby - maybe make committee of all damage reps to handle disputes? - we like this idea
- 3 categories of damage: wear and tear, accidental damage, and willful damage
- wear and tear should be automatically paid for by housing
- other cases of damage would go to damage committee consisting of damage reps, Tim Chang, maybe IHC-appointed "damage chair"
- committee would decide whether damage is accidental, willful, or some combo - then determine what percentage the house should pay and what percentage housing should pay
- if committee determines damage was willful and house should pay, then that house can internally decide to charge an individual
- meet to talk about charge again? - flesh out ideas about damage, also talk about murals on walls
- next Tuesday at 10:30 in Brennen conference room (comfier than SAC33 and Kim still has card access :))
