IHC Minutes: February 3, 2005
meeting called to order in Ricketts
absent: Barrett; guests: Erik Dreyer, Kasia Gora
- quick reminder: presidents have to send UCC lists to Sue C.
- food committee chair position / other food stuff
- change to be appointed by ASCIT instead of IHC? also would report
to ASCIT
- would anyone hear reports? would houses be represented?
- food reps should be representing houses
- unofficial vote: more ppl for ASCIT than IHC
- make position elected instead of appointed?
- not really any reason to - when appointed, person has to
volunteer, ensures they are interested in the job
- Kasia - not many comments/specific complaints about food from
students, sometimes unreasonable requests - Andre and CDS usually respond
well to requests that are reasonable
- some time next term Chandler will be closed
- originally were going to get rid of declining balance - lots
of students complained
- new plan - “Feynman plan” - a few lunches in House kitchens,
rest on declining balance
- possible to make it all declining balance, with swiping for
lunch in houses?
- will S. kitchens stay same format as now? or change to just
be buffet style like N. kitchens?
- open extended hours?
- Andre still needs to figure out details - nothing set yet
- Kasia will talk to him, try to come to IHC meeting again next
week
- mods
- got responses about modification lists
- put locks on doors between singles and doubles?
- whatever’s decided has to be consistent in all mods
- push button lock - but on which side? or key lock? deadbolt
on both sides?
- deadbolts seem to be best idea
- S. houses want to live in trailers for summer, SURFs and MURFs
will be mixed in both trailers and N. houses
- non-Techers will have specific trailers instead of being mixed
together w/in trailer
- lack of house storage space in mods
- extra room in N. houses? - not so much...
- maybe buy temporary sheds and put out near mods
- Avery rep on IHC
- have to change bylaws, need to allow for 8 voting members instead
of 7
- options:
- add immediately (or as soon as excomms approve bylaw
changes)
- wait for Avery to change constitution and elect rep who will
stay through next year
- wait until we can change bylaws to require rep to be elected
(if we want to change at all)
- kids should not have jello shots (this is not as random as it
seems, I swear)
- Avery will be voting 2nd week of 3rd term - will push sooner if
possible
- who can vote for Avery’s rep to the IHC?
- question about grad students - they are part of the house, but
the IHC doesn’t really affect them
- issue of determining Avery membership - everyone who lives
there?
- Page bylaws don’t allow dual full membership, could cause
problems
- general feeling that IHC rep shouldn’t be added until elected
- what about secretary and ath man appointments?
- usually happen right after whole IHC changes over
- should be around end of February
- if Avery elects rep by March 1, can participate in appointing
secretary and ath man, otherwise new ppl will be appointed first (so I
don’t get stuck here forever :P)
- S. house extra housing for next year
- S. houses need to pick between “chunks” of Braun or Chester
- highest total number spots if 2 houses take Braun, 2 take Chester
but maybe all will split Braun - more singles
