IHC Minutes: February 8, 2005
meeting called to order in Ruddock
absent: Quimby; guests: Rita Bastia, Andre Mallie, Warner Leedy, Erik
Dreyer, Kasia Gora
- construction updates from Andre - Chandler should be open until end of
March, closed during April
- Red Door, Avery, Broad will still be open with expanded
selections
- Rathskeller open to undergrads
- turn-over period depends on construction - could be any time
during April (beginning or end)
- students will hopefully be eating in the house kitchens
- Feynman plan - a few lunches, plus extra money (haven't decided
amount yet)
- house kitchens open longer - 11-1:30
- south house kitchen will have same food as now, but one flat rate
(so south and north kitchens will still be different from each other)
- also haven't determined whether declining balance will "reset"
every 2 weeks or end of term
- decisions about declining balance will be made over next few
weeks
- set number of lunches can be from house kitchens OR Red Door
BBQ
- south house extra rooms
- Dabney wants Chester, everyone else wants Braun
- Avery stuff
- Warner - prefrosh will stay in Avery during prefrosh weekend -
where will they eat dinner?
- can either eat both dinners in houses, or maybe one in
Avery
- problem that Avery doesn't have community dinners, maybe not
so good for prefrosh
- Avery could try to have a more organized dinner
- maybe have dinners same as now (in 7 houses) and put another
meal in Avery (BBQ at lunch or dinner maybe) - is this like last year?
- if students do eat a dinner in Avery, need to make sure there
are enough upperclassmen there (usually houses have 1:1 or 2:1 ratio)
- maybe 2 lunches at Avery, half go each day? - could be
complicated...
- meeting with Margo tomorrow
- discussion of tuition increases, protests about it
- biggest problem seems to be lack of communication
- presidents should invite people (faculty and administrators) to house
dinners - Kim sent lists by email
- resolution changes
- excomms should vote soon on whether IHC reps must be elected in
housewide election, can wait to officially pass until Avery has
election
- already changed to require IHC rep to be undergrad
- do we want to add that rep must be elected only by undergrads?
- probably not - grad students in Avery part of community
there
