IHC Minutes: March 8, 2005

meeting called to order in Lloyd

  1. summer housing
    • try to get feel for how many ppl are staying in each house
  2. announce office hours to houses – tomorrow (and all Wednesdays) 4-5 in student services
    • free food!
  3. still need emblems from Avery, Lloyd for rings
  4. definition changes
    • first = Avery as part of IHC, second = IHC reps must be elected
    • Dabney said yes to both, Ricketts yes on first/no on second, Blacker and Ruddock yes on first (haven’t voted on second), Fleming yes on both, Page yes on second (haven’t voted on first)
  5. faculty/student interaction
    • faculty say noticed degradation of house dinners, want to be involved but feel uncomfortable at meal where rolls thrown, etc
    • maybe houses could tone down dinners when faculty are there?
    • faculty would rather come to dinner than lunch so they can get specific hosts
    • why do faculty want to come to house dinners if they don’t like them?
      • students want to have fun at dinner, might be annoyed at changing traditions just to appease faculty
    • judge house by house, also by specific prof – either just invite faculty to dress dinners, or try to tone down normal meals when faculty come
    • could have a “faculty night,” so then 2 good nights per term per house
  6. Avery meeting on Saturday
    • goal to open discussion about Avery – what it is, what it should be, etc.
    • will work out details next term about frosh in Avery etc
    • meeting went well
    • Avery council meeting tomorrow, 6:15 (mtgs are open)
  7. Avery needs to pick time for dinner prefrosh weekend to publish in schedule
  8. S Houses off campus prefs
    • Dabney: 216 Chester, 505 Wilson
    • Fleming: Braun
    • Blacker: 505 Wilson, Braun, 216 Chester
    • Ricketts: Braun, 216, 505
    • so Fleming and Ricketts in Braun, Blacker in 505 Wilson, Dabney in 216 Chester (worked out perfectly! ?)
  9. good to have admin at lunch?
    • could try and have all in one day, or do one office at a time (but then would probably all go to one house)
    • any day but Friday is good – can do Monday in S Houses, Tuesday in N Houses
  10. stuff for next term
    • meetings - plan Wednesday for now, figure out if need to change later
    • need summer housing numbers by 2nd week
    • new chair will be installed first week
    • appoint ath man with secretary – post signups today, interviews first Wednesday next term
    • committee appts should be 3rd or 4th week of next term
    • student housing committee, have someone from IHC as alternate (compromise w/Kim Border, he wanted IHC chair permanently on committee)
