IHC Minutes: May 11, 2005
meeting called to order in Blacker
absent: Michael Conry (mostly), Michael Chang
- Summer housing
- Peter asks that the south house presidents give him the results of
summer room assignments as soon as possible, so that he can see if
single-gender mods would be possible over the summer.
- Arturo reports that probably more people in Ricketts will want to
live in the Ricketts mods over the summer than the spots Kim said they
would have. Peter clarifies that houses can fill as many summer spots
as they want to, as long as they do not take doubles as singles.
- There is discussion over whether or not we should be working to have
single-gender mods.
- Discussion of whether or not CRC reps should be elected house-by-house
- There is concern that only a small number (2) of students sit on a
case, on thus it is important that every single CRC rep be really
good.
- It is believed that having a CRC rep from each house would improve
communication about the CRC with the houses.
- It appears that, starting next year, there will be elected CRC reps
from each house. Thus discussion should primarily be about what
should be done for CRC representatives for this year.
- it looks like neither Blacker, Fleming, nor Avery will have
a CRC representative this year. However, the IHC representatives
from these houses do not believe that this will be a problem.
- Those currently upset about the CRC should talk to ASCIT about
long-term issues or to Barbara Green about more specific/recent
issues.
- The trunk room
- All the houses have been notified that they need to empty out the
trunk room, but students have not been doing so.
- We propose that, starting at 11:59 pm on May 29, the trunk room be
open for all students to take whatever they want. Two days later,
housing can throw away everything left in there.
- There is some housing property down there, and Coffee House
property, so there will have to be some effort to label things that
people cannot take.
- Parking
- It looks like all student parking will be consolidated into the new
parking structure on California.
- We don't understand why south house students would be put in a lot
on the opposite side of campus from the modular housing, while
professors whose buildings are near the new structure will be parking
in Holliston.
- Peter will speak with someone in the administration about these
parking issues, and check if the IHC parking committee has been
consulted with about these changes.
- Mural Policy
- Peter reports that we are probably at a point where murals will be
freely allowed in the new South Houses (as long as they are not
offensive). There is still discussion over what kind of writing will
be allowed and where.
- Every house should clean up their mural policy, and then send them
to Brandi so that she can put them all together and she and Peter can
take them to the next mural meeting.
- Matt K. is still working on a document clarifying the role
of the Stewardship committee.
- The IHC approves keeping Scott Jordan on Fleming's athletic list
for this term.
- The IHC resolves that a 14-foot-deep hole in a house's courtyard
is an impressive achievement.
