IHC Minutes: November 29, 2005
meeting called to order in Page
guests: Helena Kopecky
- Helena Kopecky from the Counseling Center speaks with the IHC about the House
UCC systems, and to discuss the possibility of additional training for
UCC's from the Counseling Center.
- Each House president describes his or her House's UCC system.
- The IHC generally believes that additional UCU training could be
useful.
- Helena suggests that training could be useful to UCC's or to
any upperclassmen interested in increasing their set of tools for
dealing with problems with which others might come to them.
- Helena will meet with the IHC again in two weeks with proposals
for such training programs.
- The IHC discusses the training session the administration would like
to hold for House social teams.
- The House presidents will e-mail Jacob the e-mail addresses of their
social team, and Jacob will forward these along to the administration
so that they can organize such a session directly with the social
teams.
- The IHC will check with Tom Mannion to see if the training session
has already been scheduled for this Sunday.
- Jacob reports that students appointed by the IHC to the following
committees have not yet been contacted by those committees to meet:
- Foreign Students and Scholars
- Health Committee
- Athletics and Physical Education (although the students appointees
were able to discover when the meetings were and have been attending)
- Grievances
- Computer Advisory
- Parking
- Student Housing
Jacob will send this list to Peter so that he can contact the appropriate
administrators/faculty to either get these committees to meet with our
student appointees.
- The IHC still needs to officially divide up the student parking spots
in the Avery parking lot, although the unofficial system in place now
has been working fairly well.
- The IHC discusses strategies for preventing a seven-day board program
from being enacted.
- The IHC needs to meet again to continue to work to get a better
understanding of the budgetary issues, especially the budget for
Caltech Dining Services.
- The IHC needs to develop a plan for speaking with various
administrators and faculty about this issue, such as Margo Marshak,
Paul Jennings, the Scholarships and Financial Aid committee, etc.
- We have not yet been able to get the statistics we would like from
the Financial Aid Office -- specifically, how many students are
receiving full financial aid.
