IHC Minutes: 4/13/06
Meeting called to order in Parson Gates
Guests preset: Margo Marshak, Tom Mannion, Ken Libbrecht, Rick Bishoff, Cathy Jurca.
Committee members absent: Blacker, Fleming, and Page presidents.
- Dabney Drop Day:
- Usage of St. Luke's was effectively denied at the last minute when tons of extra regulations were presented to Dabney House four months after they were told they could use the property.
- Niese Nash is the contact person responsible for St. Luke's (from Public Events).
- None of the administration/faculty members present was involved until they were contacted by Dabney House upon receiving all of the new regulations.
- The backup location for Dabney Drop Day is the backyard of Steele House (offered by Rick Bishoff).
- The move back into the South Houses:
- Summary of a special meeting between Craig Montuori, Michael Woods, Tim Chang, Marie, and Maria:
- Off-Campus alleys will remain as they currently are (reserved for only one house) as long as that house's on-campus alleys are full. Page has had problems with this.
- The situation with the apartments will remain the same as it is currently. Each apartment has a net rent that needs to be payed each month, and is divided up amongst all of the people sharing the apartment.
- Marie and Maria will work to get us information about other Caltech-owned housiing that could be used for the students planning to move back into the South Houses when they reopen (because the mods don't make up for all the spaces lost when the South Houses closed.
- Mark/Braun affiliated space would be left affiliated for the rest of the year, but the following year that space would go back to being unaffiliated.
- Another meeting is planned with the same people plus all of the South House secretaries to work out exactly what the plan will be with regards to room picks and the move-in.
- Prefrosh Weekend:
- Prefrosh weekend will be from the 20th through the 22nd.
- Things have been a huge success so far, there are plenty more willing hosts than prefrosh to host.
- Future prefrosh weekends will be extended back to three days. This is made possible by Craig's plan to save costs by bussing prefrosh into Old-Town Pasadena for lunches.
- "Everybody is doing a super awesome job and a lot of work and it's great to be in charge of admissions at Caltech, yay!" --Rick Bishoff
- Admissions is considering having a pool of students around, ready to direct confused prefrosh to where they're supposed to be.
- Ricketts has often put admissions in a very tough position in the past, but they direct everything only towards current students and volunteers, so things should be ok.
- Open Houses:
- Open Houses used to be held by the Administration, but stopped because nobody came, and it was expensive to provide food/drinks at them.
- Idea presented for the IHC to organize open houses in the houses themselves, where administrators are invited.
- Stay tuned for the following topics at next week's exciting meeting!
- Eddie comes back to talk about the Mural Policy.
- Houses want to recreate old murals that were lost.
- Murals in the tunnels being destroyed by GPS?
