IHC Minutes: 4/18/06

Meeting called to order in Avery.

Guests preset: Jon Senn (Tech Editor), Jean Sun (BoC Chair)

Committee members absent: Blacker and Page presidents.

  1. Honor code survey:
    • Different portions of the survey will be for different groups: undergrads, faculty, grads, etc.
    • Should go out in a month or so.
    • Two years ago there was a survey, but there was a confidentiality problem.
    • This survey will be on paper. The BoC felt paper was better, better able to get it in people's faces.
    • An ASCIT competition will be organized between houses to increase returns.
    • The survey will be divided by gender, on or off campus, class, etc...
    • House presidents will be responsible for distributing the surveys.
  2. Two possible rotation violations in the Tech:
    • Harold isn't worried about the one that could affect Avery.
    • The other could affect Page, but Sean's not here, so we can't adequately deal with it.
  3. Blacker Interhouse construction to be left up:
    • Dabney is talking with Blacker about reusing their construction.
    • Admissions wants to keep the bridge up (maybe the dance floor as well) so they can show off student work.
  4. Ruddock BFD:
    • Presented to other House presidents for approval for publication during prefrosh weekend.
  5. UCCs for Frosh Camp/Challenges and Choices:
    • House presidents have priority to choose the UCCs.
    • Lists must be prepared by the May 8th deadline.
  6. Bringing back INTERHOUSE!
    • RF Courtyard.
    • BoD already allocated money for an opening of the South Houses party. This could be made into an old-fashioned INTERHOUSE!
    • Who should be in charge?
    • What about people from off-campus (security concerns)?
    • For the future: Get the ASCIT social director and decide who's going to be in charge of it. Get a Tech article about Interhouse coming back.
  7. Mural Policy:
    • MOSH says it's up to us to prove we can make it work, but if something is deemed offensive, then they ask general counsel, and they'll take the lawyers's advice.
    • Talked with Margo about the administration providing appropriate (non-damaging) painting materials. She thought it was a good idea.
    • There will be a house-determined process about how a mural goes up and what stays, etc.
