IHC Minutes: 5/16/06

Meeting called to order in Lloyd

Guests preset: Tim Chang, Todd Gingrich, Gonzo, Head of Security, Tom Mannion.

Committee members absent: Avery, Blacker and Fleming House presidents.

  1. South House Security:
    • Tim Chang is worried about people writing combos next to doors. (We've never seen this, and if cardswipe is implemented, then people will program cards and hang them next to doors.
    • Housing claims that there have been traditionally more trespassers in the South Houses.
    • Cardswipe information is kept for one year if there's nothing wrong at all. Any problems mean the data is kept for seven years. The only person who has access is the Director of Security.
    • Prefrosh weekend guest cards can be made. Admissions was just late in contacting the card office.
    • We could opt for a thumbprint scanner instead.
    • Card swipe was originally meant to open up the entire campus to undergrads, so they wouldn't have to go through the trouble of getting seperate keys for everything. However, it has been used to close off buildings that used to be on south master/otherwise accessible.
  2. Cats in the South Houses:
    • The AC system is already very expensive. Maybe tack on the cost of filters to cat owners (this would be a minor charge compared to what they pay for cat food/kitty litter).
    • Houses can set aside a cat-free alley.
    • Tim Chang thinks this should be a workable solution.
