IHC Minutes: 11/09/06
Meeting called to order in Parson Gates
Guests preset: Cathy Jurca, Tim Chang, Dean Hall (for Margo), Tom Mannion, Ken Libbrecht
Committee members absent: Scott Jordan, Joey Koehler
- Mural Policy
- Cathy learned things about student opinions (i.e.- how can students be sure that Housing won't just remove murals?).
- There's a worry about creative censorship, so we should be as clear as possible about what can't be painted.
- There should be a short list of materials that aren't good to paint with (things that could cause damage to the existing paint, or other such).
- Students should consult with Tom about murals in dining halls and lounges.
- Should include specific "legal obligation to ..." language about hateful/offensive murals.
- Since rooms with murals inside are a minority, we should be able to just put summer students into blank rooms in general.
- Freshman rooms are ok to have murals in because the only time the fresman have rooms that they don't pick is during the one-week rotation week.
