Meeting called to order in Parsons-Gates, 12:06 PM
Guests present: Prof. Cathy Jurca (the MOSH), Tim Chang, Prof. Ken Libbrecht (Housing Committee Chair), Dean John Hall, Chris Gonzales (Gonzo), Zachary Ramadan
Committee members absent: RJ Krom
- Trampoline, Back Yards, and Storage
- Housing says that back yard usage objections are made by neighbors, trustees, and insurance regarding things like fire hazards, unsightliness, and in the case of a trampoline, injury liability.
- However, Dabney and Blacker would like to use the areas for storage and other uses
- Tim also cited other things he called unsightly in other Houses
- The bottom line is that Tim will try to find storage for all of the Houses' materials as long as we can be sure to keep things stored neatly
- Damage Fund
- This is relevant because of the upcoming Student Housing Committee meeting.
- Tim reports that the old $10 for the Damage Fund was not rolled back into rent
- Cathy Jurca feels that keeping the Damage Fund is a good idea, as long as there is more oversight and attention to where the money is going.
- Other administrators seem to feel the same way; Tim wants to be sure that the Fund is effective in deterring damage
- There is some uncertainty as to who makes the final decision on this; does the Student Housing Committee make suggestions or decisions?
- The MOSH suggests that the Stewardship Committee can track the fund's effectiveness
- We feel this judging of effectiveness needs to track how damage gets done, what damage gets done, and how it is covered monetarily.
- Renovations
- Zack Ramadan reports that ASCIT is collating an online list of problems with the South Houses.
- We want a timetable for the contractors' departure
- We're also curious why the contractors are still here at all
