The Ruddock House Computer Room Printing FAQ
These are spooling jobs via CCO's Novell server, Bullwinkle. You should be printing to the HP LaserJet 4V/4MV connected to LPT2:\\BULLWINKLE\RUDDOCK_HP_Q.
My print job wonąt print. What gives? If you are using WD40, Duct-Tape, Play-doh, or Caffeine, reboot the computer before using it. If someone played a game on that computer and didn't bother to reboot it, then the configuration is very likely messed up for you (e.g. no network drivers, no Novell, etc.).
If you get a box asking for a login name and password when you start up Windows, type in the name of the computer you're using as the login name (e.g. if you're on Caffeine, type "Caffeine" without the quotes; capitalization doesn't matter) and press return without entering a password. Then it should pop up (very briefly) a window with LPT2: redirected to \\BULLWINKLE\RUDDOCK_HP_Q. In your applications, you should be printing to the HP LaserJet 4V/4MV on LPT2:.
If this doesn't remedy the problem, then try going to Netware User Tools (in either the Accessories or Network group) and select the fourth icon from the left on the window that will pop up. Click on Logout (if it allows you to do so) and then Login. Then follow the instructions above.
This should be the same as above. Alternatively, you can use wakko as a print spooler instead of bullwinkle. See the main faq for how to do so.
Using the chooser (available from the Apple menu), select the HP LaserJet Icon, then Net6, and then either Maleficent or RuddockHP, depending on where you want to print. If you select a printer other than RuddockHP, please set it back to RuddockHP when you are done using the Macintosh.
Use:
lpr -Pruddock4 filename
to print filename to RuddockHP. Replace ruddock4 with
ruddock3 to print to Maleficent instead. Both plain text and
Postscript files will be printed using the above format. For
other file types, read the man page for lpr by running:
man lpr to see if there is an option for your file type.
CCO also has a nice program called 'enscript' for formatting
text files. Run: man enscript to learn how to use it.
If you print to Maleficent, but nothing comes out, see if there
are backed up print jobs in the CCO print spool by running:
lpq -Pruddock3
If there are more than about three files listed, leave a message
on my whiteboard (Ruddock 136), or send me some
email.
